Last year, on July 28th, Des Moines lost an iconic personality, Pam Dixon.
Pam fought cancer for over 10 years with courage, grace and laughter. Oh, her laugh. If you heard it once, you’ll never forget it. Pam worked for KIOA on air for as long as I can remember.
When I heard that Pam was re-diagnosed, and things were not looking as promising as we all hoped, I reached out to Pam asking her if I could photograph her and her beautiful daughter, Maddie. Pam said, yes! We spent one afternoon at the studio where Pam and Maddie were treated to makeup and all things girly and fun. They loved watching each other get all gussied up for the shoot. Pam, of course, smiled and laughed and made jokes about the awful disease that is, cancer.
I was able to capture these images, and many more, for Pam and Maddie. I also had the amazing opportunity to gift them to her in an Italian reveal box with the help of her colleagues at DSM radio group. I sat with her in her home as we poured over the images laughing, smiling and of course crying.
You are missed by so many. You will forever stay safe in our hearts and Maddie will forever have all of our love.
